The entertainment magazine Variety reported yesterday that New Line Cinema has aquired the rights to a movie based on the highly successful Gears of War game.
The game will be adapted to the silver screen by producers Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey and written by Stuart Beattie (Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy, Collateral). A director will be chosen when the script is ready.
The movie will surely flesh out the rather skeletal plot in the game, since there is already a full-fledged back story for the game. The game was designed from thr ground up to be easily adaptable to other media. Gears of War Lead Designer, CliffyB will also be partaking in the movie as a consultant.
